Henry Onyekuru

Onyekuru 'always let himself down' - Anderlecht's Vanhaezebrouck criticises Everton loanee

Following Anderlecht's disappointing 5-0 defeat to Club Brugge, coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has lashed out at Henry Onyekuru.

Despite being deployed out of position for the most part of the ongoing season, the former Eupen player is the joint top goalscorer in the Belgian top-flight with nine goals.

He was dropped to the bench against Ivan Leko's men on Sunday, and only entered the fray when his side were already three-goal down but that was not enough to spare him Vanhaezebrouck's wrath.

“It does not make much sense to put Onyekuru at the center, but when he is standing there, he does not move, and he just moves to the left... he always let himself down,” Vanhaezebrouck was quoted as saying by Voetbalkrant..

“He does score now and then, but the last few weeks have not been as good either, his contribution went down.”

Onyekuru, on loan from Everton, has made 26 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian champions this term, scoring 10 goals. And he will be hoping to display a masterclass - worthy of getting him into his coach's good book - when he faces former club Eupen in a League encounter on Friday.
