Nacho admits his Real Madrid future could be tied to Sergio Ramos

Nacho has admitted his future at Real Madrid could be tied to that of team-mate Sergio Ramos.

The 31-year-old has become a key player for Real this term, but his contract is up for renewal at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Ramos’ contract expires this summer, and he is the most high-profile defender at the club.

What has been said?

With Ramos currently injured, Nacho is an essential part of the Real defence, but is aware his future is likely to play second fiddle to his team-mate in the club’s thinking.

"Of course, whether Madrid renew Ramos, or sign a central defender or two, are decisions that influence my future," Nacho said. "It's normal, everything affects [the situation]. I will look at it, analyse it and talk with my club and my family.

"I have spoken with the club, I have this season left and one more. I will make the best decision for myself after speaking with my club."

Ramos urged to stay by Nacho

The 35-year-old looked to be on his way out of the club earlier this season, amid talk of a souring of relations with Real president Florentino Perez.

However, they are now reportedly on better terms and that has raised the prospect of Ramos remaining at the club - which is Nacho’s wish.

"As a team-mate, friend and Madridista, I can only say that the best thing for the club is that he stays," he said. "For Ramos, the best thing for him is that he stays too."

Big week for Real

Real take on Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, then they host Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday.

With Atletico Madrid losing on Sunday, the door is ajar for whoever wins the Clasico to pile further pressure on Diego Simeone’s faltering league leaders.
