Mwendwa: FKF concerned with Kenyan clubs

Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa is concerned with the dismal performance by Kenyan clubs in Caf assignments.

In an interview with Goal, the federation chief said that the horrible run needs to be arrested: “We have to put in place mitigating measures, and as a federation we are putting in place structures to stem this. We have to change the script by ensuring that we have strong and vibrant youth structures that will produce players of the right calibre.

“Exposure is necessary and that is why we are building several national junior sides,” he said, adding: “The last time we competed at the African Cup of Nation finals was in 2004, that is a long time, and we have to look at the picture holistically. It’s not just the clubs but the national team too.”

Last week, Kenyan football was thrown into a spin after Tusker FC were tossed out of the Caf Champions League at preliminary phase by minnows AS Port- Louis from Mauritius after falling 2-1 away to bow out on 3-2 aggregate.
