Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat says his side must stay at the top of their game for longer periods as they chase Sydney FC in A-League.

A 4-1 win over Perth Glory ensures they remain 11 points behind leaders Sydney, though there are only four games left to go before the top six teams move into the Finals Series.

Sydney have been top of the league since week one, but Victory have been their nearest challengers for most of the season.

While his side are putting in good performances, Muscat feels his side must further improve if they are to have a chance of getting to the Grand Final and upsetting their rivals.

"We've got to use these games to improve ourselves," Muscat told Fox Sports.

"We know to get to the Grand Final and to win it, you've got to be performing really well, at your top.

"We asked the group during the week and today ... because our good has been very good, it's been enough but we haven't quite done that for long enough in games.

"That's been the focus, let's start preparing for the finals by being good for longer.

"As the second half went on, I thought that's exactly what we did tonight and we took some chances and in the end, there were a plethora of chances we maybe could have scored from."
