La Liga 2021-22 Season Betting: Real Madrid favourites to reign in Spain

In what is likely to be the most open La Liga title race in years, Real Madrid find themselves as clear favourites to be crowned champions of Spain.

It has been a summer of major overhaul for the club presided over by Florentino Perez, with manager Zinedine Zidane being followed out the door by captain Sergio Ramos and his fellow first-choice centre-back Raphael Varane.

The squad looks weaker than it was last season, although the arrival of David Alaba from Bayern Munich has somewhat mitigated those high-profile departures.

Real Madrid are offered at 11/10 (2.10) with bet365 to clinch what would be their 35th league title, although the Bernabeu outfit have only won La Liga in three of the last 13 seasons.

Next in the betting come Barcelona at 9/4 (3.25) with the Catalans having suffered a tumultuous summer once more.

The departure of Lionel Messi is a catastrophic loss for the club both on and off the pitch and, while plenty of talented players remain, it is difficult to muster confidence in them.

Messi scored 30 of Barca's 85 La Liga goals last season, provided nine assists, averaged more shots on goal and more dribbles than anyone else in the league per game and without him Barca look unlikely to be able to make up the deficit of seven by which they trailed last season's champions.

Which brings us to Atletico Madrid, winners of the 2020-21 title and available at 3/1 (4.00) to win back-to-back championships for the first time since the early 1950s.

Diego Simeone's side have brought in Argentina international Rodrigo De Paul to add further competition for places in midfield and are in the market for another striker, with the squad looking as strong as it was in the previous campaign.

Luis Suarez may be another year older and closer to the end of his career, but if the Uruguayan can harness his aggressive hunger for goals for one more season, Los Rojiblancos are going to be difficult to stop again.

In the 2019-20 season Sevilla finished in fourth, 10 points clear of fifth place, while last season they improved, ending the campaign 15 points ahead of the Europa League places and very much cementing their place in the top four.

Indeed, Julen Lopetegui's men were in the title race until the final few weeks of the season, and bet365 offer them at 14/1 (15.00) , their lowest price to win the league for decades.

Having comfortably secured Champions League football in each of the last two seasons, backing Sevilla to finish in the top four again at 5/4 (2.25) could also be an interesting option.

Elsewhere Europa League winners Villarreal are offered at 5/2 (3.50) to finish in the top four, while last season's fifth-placed side Real Sociedad are offered at 9/4 (3.25) to go one better and secure a Champions League berth.
