ISL 2018-19: ATK set to rope in Everton Santos

ATK have sealed the signature of Everton Santos for the 2018-19 Indian Super League (ISL), Goal can confirm.

The forward becomes the fifth foreign signing for the Sanjiv Goenka co-owned franchise this season. The 31-year-old is currently plying his trade at Brazilian third division side Botafogo SP and is expected to join his new team in the first week of September during pre-season in Spain.

Santos ended as top scorer for Mumbai City last season with eight goals across both ISL and the Super Cup. ATK seem to be going in with tried an tested ISL foreigners this season after a lowly ninth-placed finish the previous term.

The former PSG man could be deployed on either flank, with most of his starts coming from the left last season. Steve Coppell might have finally zeroed in on his attacking midfield combination with Jayesh Rane on the right and Manuel Lanzarote in the middle in his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Santos also becomes the second Brazilian with compatriot Gerson Vieira too crossing in from Mumbai City. Interestingly, Santos is the fifth player from Mumbai to make a switch to ATK this season after Vieira, Arindam Bhattacharya, Aiborlang Khongjee and Balwant Singh.

ATK players assemble in Kolkata early next week before flying out to Spain for their pre-season training. The inaugural champions had a season to forget last time when they finished ninth and had a revolving door of managers with Teddy Sheringham, Ashley Westwood and Robbie Keane all trying their hands out.
