Stephen Constantine names 22-man India squad for China friendly

India have announced their 22-man squad which will take on China in an international friendly at Jiangsu on October 13.

Head coach Stephen Constantine had announced a 29-man probable squad earlier to undergo a two-day training camp in New Delhi with Salam Ranjan Singh being the only player called up from the I-League.

The East Bengal defender remains the only I-League player in the final squad for the friendly announced on Tuesday evening. ATK forward Balwant Singh has expectedly missed out in the squad after his passport troubles were revealed by Constantine on Tuesday.

Among the players from the probable squad to miss out on the flight to Beijing are Delhi Dynamos’ Lallianzuala Chhangte, Chennaiyin FC’s Germanpreet Singh and FC Goa’s Manvir Singh.

FC Pune City custodian Vishal Kaith is another player to miss the final cut along with Jamshedpur FC’s Bikash Jairu.

Constantine has opted to go with a four-man striker’s contingent with Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpekhlua complement by Jamshedpur FC duo Sumeet Passi and Farukh Choudhary.

Mumbai City FC’s Souvik Chakraborti also misses out on the 22-man squad which will depart for China on Wednesday. The Blue Tigers will lock horns with Team Dragon on Ocober 13 at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, Jiangsu.

Defenders: Pritam Kotal, Sarthak Golui, Sandesh Jhingan, Anas Edathodika, Salam Ranjan Singh, Subhasish Bose, Narayan Das.

Midfielders: Udanta Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Pronay Halder, Rowllin Borges, Anirudh Thapa, Vinit Rai, Halicharan Narzary, Ashique Kuruniyan.

Forwards: Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Sumeet Passi, Farukh Choudhary
