The Frenchman says that he wants the England international to realise his potential - and indicated that might mean leaving the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that it may be time for Jack Wilshere to leave the club for his own good.

The England midfielder spent last term on loan at Bournemouth, where he suffered a broken leg – the latest in a long string of serious injury issues for the 25-year-old.

Now back at the Emirates Stadium, first-team opportunities seem limited for the club’s youth graduate, and Wenger has suggested a change might be best for all involved.

“It is his first week back and we need to sit down and see where he will go,” the Frenchman said.

Wenger warns Alexis: I don't have to sell

“I made him start at a very young age and want him to have the career he is capable of. But he has gone through difficult times. I want him to play somewhere. We have to decide that later.”

Wilshere, who played 27 Premier League games last term, has a contract with the Gunners that expires in 2018.
