The Nedbank Cup has once again dished out several mouth-watering encounters, including a fiery clash involving the Soweto giants and the Citizens.

The draw which was conducted on Thursday evening, pitted two of the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) title contenders in Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates against one another.

While Pirates are yet to face off against the Citizens in the second round of the league, they will take solace from knowing that the last time these two sides met it was them who walked away winners.

However, since that clash in September, the Mother City-based side has grown in leaps and bounds, and most recently defeated Bidvest Wits in order to progress into the next round of the lucrative knockout tournament.

Nonetheless, following the draw, Pirates star Happy Jele remains optimistic of a positive result, but is also wary of the difficulty of the task at hand.

“We know City and they also know a lot about us as we play in the same league,” the Pirates defender told the media.

“It’s going to be tough match but we will be ready. We’ve improved a lot as a team this season and we have a team strong enough to challenge for cup honours,” he added.

Meanwhile, City defender Vincent Kobola also shared his thoughts on the clash and believes that victory is not a far cry considering that they have a competitive squad.

“When the season started we said we want to win one cup. We missed out on the MTN and now we are targeting the Nedbank Cup,” he said.

“Pirates are on form currently but we’ll compete. We are still in the running for the league title and we are looking at both this competitions for success. We have the squad to compete,” Kobola concluded.
