Ghana vs Uruguay Predictions: World Cup Group Stage Odds & Best Bets

As Group H’s final matchday approaches, one can expect a dramatic finish when Ghana takes on Uruguay for what could be the final qualification spot in the group.

A rematch of the infamous quarter-final match between Ghana and Uruguay in 2010’s World Cup will take place Dec. 2 at Al Janoub stadium. This will be one of the two final Group H matches with Portugal and South Korea kicking off in Ar-Rayyan simultaneously.

Football fans are gearing up for one of the most anticipated matches of the group stage with this essentially serving as a knockout game. While South Korea still possesses an outside shot to qualify, Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese side are expected to end all hopes of Son Heung-min and co. seeing the Round of 16.

This presumption leaves Ghana and Uruguay in a win-or-go-home situation.

As the odds currently stand, Uruguay is decently favored to defeat Ghana and likely advance out of Group H. While this outcome is certainly within the realm of possibilities, if Ghana has proven anything two games into the tournament, it is that they will not back down, despite being an underdog in every match.

Ghana vs Uruguay Betting Tips

  • Uruguay is one of three countries that is yet to score a goal two games into the tournament.
  • Uruguay is averaging 11.5 shots per match, with only four shots on target in its first two matches.
  • A big reason for Uruguay’s lack of scoring has been the inability to keep possession. La Celeste is averaging just 46% possession in the tournament.
  • Uruguay has conceded just two goals and only three shots on target in two games.
  • Ghana’s five goals scored are tied for the fourth most in the tournament.
  • Ghana’s five goals conceded are tied for the fifth most in the tournament. The Black Stars have been prone to conceding on the counter-attack over their first two games.
  • The West African side is spreading its goals fairly evenly, averaging one goal in the first half and 1.5 in the final 45 minutes.

Ghana vs Uruguay Prediction

Ghana 2-2 Uruguay

Ghana’s dark horse run will continue into the Round of 16 after the Black Stars pick up a point in a draw with Uruguay..

Ghana’s managers, Otto Addo and Charles Akonnor, have their team playing inspired football, despite relatively low expectations coming into the tournament. As a result, Ghana’s attack appears rejuvenated compared to what it showed prior to the World Cup. While the defense has been poor two games in, Kudus and the rest of the Ghana attack have performed far better than anyone could have expected. This is the main reason why the Black Stars will advance out of the Group Stage for the first time since 2010, where Uruguay, ironically, eliminated them.

Uruguay’s disappointing World Cup run will likely come to an end after the final whistle is blown in this match. La Celeste will not be able to recreate the miracle that Luis Suárez and the 2010 national team pulled off a dozen years ago against this very team. The 35-year-old striker, who will likely be playing in his final World Cup match, has not had the same impact scoring the ball as he once had in his prime.

Ghana vs Uruguay Best Bet

➕ Double Chance and Total Goals: Tie or Uruguay and Over 1.5 goals (-175) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 3 Units

While there is certainly valid reasoning as to why oddsmakers still favor Uruguay in this match, the fact of the matter is the players have simply not played up to their fullest potential.

Uruguay can certainly squeak out a win, particularly against a team who concedes as much as Ghana has thus far. Even so, I see a draw being a more likely outcome, making this the “safer” play to cover your bases.

Whether the match ends in a stalemate or Uruguay does find a way to win, the Over 1.5 will likely be necessary for either result. .

➕ Double Chance And Total Goals: Ghana or Tie and Over 3.5 goals (+725) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

This will certainly be a longshot play, but is not as outlandish as one might think. Ghana’s style of play has seen a ton of goals both being scored and being conceded by the West African side.

Ghana’s ability to score goals in volume, while also conceding just as many, gives the Over 3.5 goal total a likely chance of hitting. As I mentioned in my prediction, despite being the underdog in this match, the Black Stars could certainly produce a result as they did against South Korea, meaning this would cash big time.
