Ghana 2-1 Cote d'Ivoire: Black Starlets through to Wafu U-17 tournament final

Ghana have moved a step closer to picking a ticket for next year's Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations following a semi-final win over Cote d'Ivoire at the ongoing Wafu Zone B Championship in Niger.

Goals from Mohammed Umar and Taufiq Shaibu brought the Black Starlets from behind to register a 2-1 victory at Stade General Seyni Kountche in Niamey.

The result has put Ghana into Saturday's final where they will face Nigeria who defeated Niger in the second semi-final.

The winner of the tournament earns the sole ticket for next year's Afcon in Tanzania.

The Wafu Zone B Championship is in line with Caf's new resolution to organize mini regional qualifying tournaments to decide the final participants for the U-17 Afcon.

The top four teams at the Afcon will represent the continent at the World Cup.

Cote d'Ivoire broke the deadlock in Wednesday's fixture through Seydou Traore, but Umar hit back to level the score for Ghana in the 40th minute.

Shaibu then made it 2-1 for the Black Starlets on the stroke of half-time.

Fifteen minutes to full-time, Ghana suffered a blow when Eugene Adjei Frimpong was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Nonetheless, the two-time African champions held their own to secure a hard-fought win.
