Federation Cup: Robo FC hold Delta Queens, Rivers Angels pip Osun Babes

Holders Rivers Angels and Confluence Queens made a winning start in the first round of their group stage of the 2018 Federation Cup

Defending champions Rivers Angels started their quest to reach the quarter-final of the Women’s Federation Cup title as they defeated Osun Babes 2-0 in Lafia on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half, it was second-half strikes from Yetunde Adegboyejo and Rofiat Sule that ensured Edwin Okon’s side silenced the Omoluabi ladies at the Lafia City Stadium.

In Calabar, FC Robo held Delta Queens to a 3-3 draw as Monday Gift was on target twice as  Emmanuel Osahon’s ladies fought hard to avoid defeat at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Tuesday.

Sunshine Queens failed to see off Nigeria Women Premier League champions Nasarawa Amazons as both sides settled for a 2-2 draw at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Lola Philips scored the opener for the Akure based girls before Ayomide Anibaba levelled matters but Aminat Yakubu missed what would have turned out Sunshine’s winner from the spot.

In Group B, Confluence Queens escaped an upset as goals from Aweda Titilayo, Mercy Omokwo and Glory Osaghae gave the Lokoja based side a 3-2 win over Delta Babes in Enugu.

Up next, Ibom Angels will tackles Delta Babes on Thursday, while Confluence Queens will be eyeing their second win on the bounce to advance when they face Ibom Angels on Friday.

In Ijebu Ode, Nasarawa Amazons will battle it out against Bayelsa Queens for a spot in the next round, while Robo Queens will be aiming for their first win against Edo Queens in Calabar.
