Commentary

Thanks for joining us for this live coverage of Spezia's 2-1 win over Milan in Serie A.
Milan miss the chance to go top and remain second in Serie A, with city rivals Inter maintaining their place as league leaders and now having a game in hand. They host Juventus next before a huge clash with Inter after that. That stunning late winner means that Spezia move up to 14th place and six points above the relegation zone. They will look to carry on the momentum from this game when they face Sampdoria next time out.
What an incredible finish to the match! Spezia run out 2-1 winners over Milan at the San Siro after a dramatic late winner from Gyasi. They certainly rode their luck, seeing the hosts miss chance after chance and even missing a penalty. Their keeper Provedel gave away the penalty late in the first-half, before Hernandez put the spot-kick wide. However, Pioli's men did go in front before the break as Leao chipped Provedel after latching onto a through ball. The visitors hadn't really shown any attacking threat and this continued into the second half, with Saelemaekers and Ibrahimovic missing chances to put the game to bed. Motta's men grew into the game and levelled it up on 64 minutes, with Agudelo finishing after being picked out by Verde. Milan piled on the pressure late and even had the ball in the net through Messias, however the referee had already blown for a previous foul. Ibrahimovic then saw a header pushed onto the crossbar, before Spezia went down the other end to steal all three points. Kovalenko latched onto a mix-up at the back and squared it for Gyasi, who composed himself before calmly slotting into the far corner to spark wild celebrations.
90' + 8' FULL-TIME: MILAN 1-2 SPEZIA
V. Kovalenko
Assist
Spezia
90' + 6' Kovalenko's low ball in to Gyasi was perfect before the Ghanaian did the rest.
E. Gyasi
Goal
Spezia
90' + 6' Incredible!!! The visitors have won it at the death! Having just seen their opponents go close and hit the bar, Spezia go up the other end and nick all three points. A defensive mix-up allows Kovalenko to send a cross over to Gyasi, who slots it past Maignan to make it 2-1 and surely win the game.
90' + 4' Ibrahimovic's resulting free-kick is tipped over by Provedel, before the keeper pushes a header from the Swedish striker onto the bar from the corner. The visitors are really clinging on here.
90' + 3' There's controversy here as Milan have the ball in the net through Messias. However, the referee had blown the whistle for a previous foul on Rebic just before the ball came to Messias. The hosts are incensed by the referee not playing an advantage there.
S. Bastoni
Yellow Card
Spezia
90' + 2' Bastoni is booked for the foul on Rebic.
90' + 2' The hosts claim for a penalty as they think Giroud's shot is handballed by Erlic, however the referee waves play on.
90' Ibrahimovic turns and fires at goal from inside the box, but his effort is straight at Provedel. Either side and that could've given the keeper a real problem.
88' Giroud fouls Provedel as a cross comes in from the left, relieving the pressure that Spezia were under and giving them a chance to get upfield.
86' Bastoni puts in an important challenge on the edge of his box to dispossess Messias as he shaped to shoot.
A. Rebić
Rafael Leão
Milan
83' Rebic replaces Leao, who will be wondering how he has only finished this game with the one goal.
82' Agudelo drives superbly to the byline before pulling the ball back into a very dangerous area. Unfortunately for him there's no teammate there to finish it off and the hosts can clear.
V. Kovalenko
G. Maggiore
Spezia
80' Kovalenko comes on for Maggiore with ten minutes remaining.
79' Hernandez sends a free-kick into a dangerous position but none of his teammates are there to meet it, much to his frustration.
Salvador Ferrer
A. Reca
Spezia
77' Ferrer comes on for the injured Reca.
76' Reca is down receiving treatment, holding his shoulder.
74' No team has scored more goals in the final 30 minutes of matches in Serie A this season than Milan. Can they find another one here and win this game?
72' Milan will rue the chances they had to add to their lead when the score was 1-0 if they don't go on and win this game.
D. Calabria
A. Florenzi
Milan
70' Florenzi is replaced by Calabria.
O. Giroud
Brahim Díaz
Milan
70' Giroud comes on for Diaz as Pioli tries to reassert dominance of this game.
69' Messias heads over from the edge of the box after being picked out by Hernandez.
68' Maignan is forced into a save by Amian, who had shot from the edge of the box. The keeper gets low down to his left and makes a comfortable enough stop.
67' Spezia have really come into the game in the last few minutes, and that leveller comes just as they had finally started to show a bit more attacking threat.
G. Maggiore
Yellow Card
Spezia
65' Maggiore sees yellow for clattering into Hernandez.
K. Agudelo
Goal
Spezia
64' It's 1-1! The visitors have just grown into the game in recent minutes and now find themselves level after Verde finds Agudelo with a brilliant low cross. The substitute makes no mistake with his effort, sending it past Maignan into the back of the net.
D. Verde
Assist
Spezia
64' Verde's cross was perfect for Agudelo to finish first-time.
63' Erlic heads over from a Reca cross when he really should've done better. That was a big chance for Motta's men to level.
M. Gabbia
Yellow Card
Milan
62' Gabbia is yellow-carded for bringing down Agudelo.
60' What a chance for the visitors! Amian gets the ball in the box in good shooting position. He turns and fires at goal but Maignan does enough to push it behind for a corner, which then comes to nothing.
K. Agudelo
R. Manaj
Spezia
58' Agudelo comes on for Manaj, who hasn't really had a kick in this match.
Junior Messias
A. Saelemaekers
Milan
57' That was Saelemaekers' last action of the contest, as he is replaced by Messias.
57' Provedel makes another big stop to deny Saelemaekers with his right foot after the Belgian forward was picked out excellently by Leao, who again beat Amian.
56' Ibrahimovic finds space to shoot in the box but his left-footed curler doesn't bend enough to trouble the goal.
54' The visitors have lacked any real quality going forward so far in this game. This time it's Verde who gives the ball away sloppily as they try to build an attack.
52' Leao has only scored two or more goals in a Serie A game once, against Spezia in October 2020. Can he do the same here against the same opponents?
50' The hosts have certainly started this second half the better of the two teams as they look to grab a second goal, keeping possession well and trying to find that killer pass to unlock the defence.
48' Diaz intercepts a loose pass in the midfield before laying it left to Ibrahimovic, however the Swede's low cross is blocked before it can reach Leao at the back post.
46' The hosts get us back underway for the second period.
The hosts will look to add to their tally early in this second half to get rid of any Spezia hopes for a comeback. Leao has been very impressive so far. Will he be the man to kill this game off?
So we go to the break with the scoreline 1-0 to the hosts. It's a deserved lead too, having had the majority of both the possession and the quality chances. Leao caused issues for the visitors from the start, nearly curling a magnificent effort into the far corner after just two minutes but seeing it go just wide. He went close on a couple of other occasions, with Amian really struggling to deal with him. Pioli's men just couldn't convert though, and it looked as if Spezia would reach half-time on level terms. However with just minutes to go until the break, Provedel inexplicably decided to take a throw-in back to him on his chest. Leao charged him down and nipped it away from him before being fouled by Provedel. Hernandez stepped up with the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way but dragging it wide of the post. Provedel probably couldn't believe his luck, however Leao then latched onto a long through ball before chipping Provedel to make it 1-0 in first-half injury time.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: MILAN 1-0 SPEZIA
Rafael Leão
Goal
Milan
45' + 1' Leao makes it 1-0! After going close on numerous occasions, he finally puts his side in front after latching onto a long through ball that had been sliced towards his own goal by Nikolaou. He gets to it before the keeper and toes it over him into the net.
T. Hernández
Penalty Miss
Milan
45' Hernandez misses the penalty! He steps up and sends the keeper Provedel the wrong way, however he drags his effort wide of the right post. What a let-off for the visitors and especially Provedel.
I. Provedel
Yellow Card
Spezia
44' Provedel is booked for his foul on Leao that has led to the penalty.
44' After a brief VAR check, the referee awards the penalty!
43' Milan may have a penalty! The ball is thrown back to Provedel, who decides to take a touch on his chest. However, Leao is onrushing and just manages to get to the ball before the keeper can clear it. Provedel wipes out Leao, however the referee initially awards a free-kick to the goalkeeper. There will be a VAR check though as he thinks it may be a penalty.
41' What a save! Provedel makes a huge fingertip stop to push a Saelemaekers curling effort wide of his right post.
40' The ball sits up for Maggiore to take a pop at goal, but his half-volley from the edge of the box is sliced and nowhere near troubling Maignan.
38' The hosts have played 11 games this season against teams currently in the bottom half of Serie A, winning ten and drawing one.
36' Ibrahimovic finds Saelemaekers on the edge of the box, but the ball takes a bobble and the Belgian's shot for goal goes pretty much directly upwards. Luckily for him, the offside flag had already been raised.
34' Leao brings a long though ball from Gabbia down in the area with a brilliant touch, but Nikoloau just manages to get in the way before the former Lille man can shoot.
J. Kiwior
Yellow Card
Spezia
32' Kiwior drags back Diaz as the Milan man skipped past him, earning him a place in referee Marco Serra's book.
31' Ibrahimovic lets fly from distance, but his dipping shot goes wide. We've seen him score from that distance and he'll be disappointed with that try.
29' Maignan makes a good stop to deny Verde's low effort from inside the area. That's the closest the visitors have come so far.
27' It's Ibrahimovic's turn to go close now, surging into the box before sending a low drive towards the far post. However, Provedel is able to get a foot to it and turn it away.
26' On another day, Leao could have had a hat-trick by now. You do feel that Leao and the hosts will have to take one of these chances soon or they may regret it come the end of 90 minutes.
24' Leao goes close again! He does superbly to win the ball back and stride forward before playing a one-two with Saelemaekers. The Brazilian forward curls an effort at goal from just inside the box, but it skims just over Provedel's goal.
P. Kalulu
Yellow Card
Milan
22' Kalulu goes in the book for a cynical foul on Manaj as the visitors looked to counter.
21' Saelemaekers dribbles into the box and thinks he has made enough space for a shot, however Kiwior gets in with a big block before Florenzi then blazes over the rebound.
E. Gyasi
Yellow Card
Spezia
19' Gyasi goes in the book for dragging back Bakayoko.
18' These two teams have met three times in Serie A previously, with Milan winning two of those while Spezia have won one.
16' So close for the hosts! It's the danger man Leao again, who twists and turns Amian all sorts of ways before deciding to shoot on his left foot. He aims for the far post across goal, but Provedel makes a big save to turn it behind for a corner.
14' The match has just become a little scrappy in the last couple of minutes, with lots of niggly fouls and breaks in play disrupting the flow of the game.
12' Gabbia is at the near post to meet a Florenzi corner from the left, but the centre-half can only send his header high and wide of Provedel's goal.
10' Saelemaekers shifts onto his left foot before firing at goal, but Nikolaou is able to block it away from danger.
9' There's a miscommunication between Verde and Reca and the latter ends up putting the ball out for a throw-in as he tried to find his teammate.
7' Maignan is out quickly to catch a floated cross from a free-kick on the left from Verde.
6' Leao shows great pace and power to burst into the box but his touch just takes the ball away from him and into the grateful hands of Provedel.
4' A Hernandez cross finds Diaz in the middle, who takes it on his chest before looking to fire at goal. However, the ball just doesn't come down for him and a visiting defender is able to nip in and clear.
2' The first shot of the evening comes from Leao, who sends a curling effort whizzing just past the far post after cutting onto his right foot. It was very nearly a dream start for the hosts.
1' The visitors kick us off and we are underway.
The two teams make their way onto the pitch ahead of this big game between a team fighting to win Serie A, and another just trying to stay in it.
Visiting coach Thiago Motta names an unchanged side from the 1-0 away win at Genoa in their last match with Verde and Gyasi either side of Manaj up front.
Home head coach Stefano Pioli makes just one change from the 3-0 win away at Venezia last time out as Krunic replaces the suspended Sandro Tonali in midfield, while Ibrahimovic continues to spearhead the attack.
