USWNT icon Becky Sauerbrunn received an unexpected tribute from French football legend Thierry Henry as part of a pre-match ceremony honoring her career before the USWNT's friendly against Jamaica. The 39-year-old had announced her retirement from football in December 2024 and Henry appeared in a surprise video message, where he praised Sauerbrunn's leadership, professionalism, and more. The emotional tribute was part of a larger ceremony celebrating Sauerbrunn's announced retirement from professional soccer.
"I just wanted to congratulate you on your career," Henry said. "What else to say? Two hundred-plus caps for the national team. Captain of the national team. Winning two World Cups....It's just outstanding...You've been a role model, and an example."
Henry also praised the center back for her love of the Gunners.
"And you're an Arsenal fan, what's not to like," Henry said with a smile. "From one Gooner to another, well done."
