Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson admits there's 'element of truth' to recent transfer rumours as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side prepare for life in League One

With Wrexham preparing for life in League One, the club has naturally been linked with players to improve the squad following a number of confirmed departures. Parkinson hasn't commented on individual players but revealed there is truth behind some of the claims in the media.

Speculation about which players Wrexham could bring in after releasing the likes of Ben Tozer, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Rob Lainton and others has been rife. The club has been tipped to look at ageing Premier League veterans, in the mould of Ben Foster, or top level Championship players seeking a big contract. Even former West Brom and Stoke striker Saido Berahino, currently playing in Cyprus, has put himself forward. Elliot Lee has backed the club to "add more great players", while one loan signing from 2023-24 that fans would definitely like to keep is Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

Via The Leader, Parkinson said: "Inevitably, we are going to get linked with a lot of players. There is always a lot of gossip going around. Some of it there is an element of truth in and some of it there isn't; some of it is off the mark and some of it is close to it.

"But we can't control what ends up in the media. We just concentrate as staff on building our list together for the players and areas we want, and are working through them. We are having chats with agents and players, and trying to get the very best players we can to improve the squad come the start of the season."

Currently on a summer break, Wrexham players are expected to return to pre-season training ahead of 2024-25 some time in the second half of June. Friendlies in North America against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Vancouver Whitecaps in July will then precede the start of the League One season on August 10.
