  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Hollywood actor admits his name change is "kinda douchey" but the constant mispelling and mispronunciation of his full name is grating a tad. That is why he is giving this shortened version a go, as he revealed in a 60-second X-rated rant.

  • WHAT ROB MCELHENNEY SAID

He said in the video: "Hi! Okay, I’m going to dedicate exactly one minute to this. Start the clock. Yes, I’m shortening my name to Rob Mac. Mostly a stage name, but I digress. Is it kinda douchey? Sure. But the amount of time that I have wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is days of my life.

"My grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and I all share it, and I love them and I want to stay connected. There’s heritage. Except, it’s not even really our f*cking name. Not only have many generations changed the spelling, the current one was just given to my ancestor by a government official who decided that this was now the spelling.

"Times have changed and most people already call me Rob Mac anyway. My family knows me and loves me regardless of how many syllables I have, and that’s the only thing that I really care about. There are so many things going on in the world and this is a silly one to continue to waste your time with. Honestly, call me whatever you want. Marion, Jerome, Archibald, Eric, Maurice, Stephanie, Francis, Marvin, Gordon, or Sam. But maybe we just keep it simple and try Rob Mac. Let’s see how it goes."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While this name change may be quite a big thing for McElhenney, or Rob Mac, Wrexham fans won't care as long as he continues to carry on his excellent co-ownership of the club with Ryan Reynolds. After a record third straight promotion, the Welsh side are now preparing for life in the Championship in what may be their biggest test yet.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Phil Parkinson's Wrexham players will shortly return for pre-season training as they prepare for their Championship season opener away to recently relegated Southampton in August. Until then, the club's fans will hope some top signings can be brought in.
