As they got all the way back to the halfway line Bale lined up the shot, and despite claiming the challenge was bordering on impossible, drilled the woodwork with a low flighted 4-iron on his final attempt.

With little indication he intends to return to football as a pundit or a coach, the Welshman will be hitting the fairways with few cares or worries.
