Victor Osimhen urged to ‘write a great chapter in England like Didier Drogba’ as ex-Arsenal & Man City star Emmanuel Adebayor reacts to Premier League transfer talk

The Nigeria international has been linked with leading sides across Europe, with his exploits in Italy at Napoli bringing him to the attention of every club that finds itself in the market for a proven goalscorer. The 25-year-old scored 31 goals in a Serie A title-winning campaign last season.

Osimhen has committed to a new contract in Naples through to 2026, which is keeping his asking price high, but there continues to be talk of the proven marksman making his way to England at some stage – with Arsenal and Chelsea among those to have been credited with interest.

Adebayor – who represented the Gunners, Tottenham and Manchester City in his playing days – has told BBC Sport of Osimhen potentially following in the footsteps of his boyhood idol: “He has the right attitude, mentality and determination to excel there (in England). I'm praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he's capable of. The Premier League is the toughest and best (league) in the world. Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things. He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba.”

Former Ivory Coast international Drogba enjoyed two productive spells at Chelsea when at the peak of his powers – claiming Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League honours with the Blues – and has been a source of inspiration for thousands, including Osimhen, as they seek to enjoy similar success.
