'Tottenham was one' - Luis Enrique confirms he was offered Spurs job prior to guiding PSG to first-ever Champions League triumph

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Luis Enrique was without a job since December 2022 after the Spanish national team were knocked out of that year's World Cup by Morocco in the round of 16. Six months later, he accepted the head coach role at PSG, where he finally found success in his second season, as he bagged the treble for the second time in his coaching career, including the club's maiden Champions League title.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    At the time Enrique opted to join the French giants, Tottenham were looking for a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte and they eventually appointed former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as their new manager. The Australian won the Europa League in his second season but was sacked regardless and replaced by Thomas Frank.

  • WHAT LUIS ENRIQUE SAID

    Ahead of PSG's UEFA Super Cup clash against Spurs on Wednesday, Enrique claimed that he was approached by the Premier League side. Speaking to reporters, Enrique said: "There were some options in the last six months before I came to Paris and Tottenham was one of them."
