Sir Jim Ratcliffe joins Bruno Fernandes, Erik ten Hag & Sir Alex Ferguson at Munich air disaster memorial as club marks 66th anniversary of crash

The new minority shareholder joined legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, current boss Erik ten Hag and captain Bruno Fernandes at the ceremony beneath the Munich clock at Old Trafford. Women's coach Marc Skinner and captain Katie Zelem also attended.

Ratcliffe, who grew up in north Manchester supporting United, was five years old when the aircraft carrying the team back from a European Cup tie in Belgrade crashed on the runway in Munich, where it had stopped to refuel. Twenty three people died in the crash, including eight United players and three members of staff. Sir Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton were among the survivors and 10 years later led United to win the European Cup in 1968, becoming the first English club to do so.

The fan-led service at Old Trafford began at 2:30pm local time with former club chaplain Rev John Boyers acting as Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony will feature readings and songs performed by the United fans.

Ten Hag and his United squad took part in an on-field service before their Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday. The Red Devils marked the occasion with a memorable 3-0 victory that saw them rise to sixth in the Premier League table.
