It's not like before! Scott McTominay insists Man Utd dressing room is no longer 'toxic' under Erik ten Hag as beleaguered manager pinpoints what is going wrong for Red Devils

United are still reeling from their embarrassing 3-0 drubbing at home to Bournemouth and now face an unforgiving week as they host Bayern Munich in a must-win Champions League game on Tuesday, before visiting arch rivals Liverpool. Ten Hag's position has become increasingly questioned after a 12th defeat of the season, but McTominay insists the manager still has the backing of the squad.

There have been suggestions of tension between the players and Ten Hag following dressing room leaks, reminiscent of flare ups between the squad and former United managers including Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick. McTominay believes that the situation is not as bad as previously while Ten Hag said the main reason why United have been doing so badly this season compared to his impressive debut campaign is the litany of injuries they have had to cope with.

Speaking to reporters, McTominay said: "It is the players' responsibility. We know that as well. We have big characters in the dressing room. It is not like the other managers when it has been toxic at times. Boys are firmly behind the manager. Players can get lost in translation, we just want to do well for the football club. It is as simple as that."

When asked what the differences are between this season and last, the manager himself added: "We had a regular team [in 2022-23], not so many changes. Especially in our backline. That helps you. You get the routines in. We have to wait for that. I think it is personnel. We are not the only team. I see inconsistency from other teams in the Premier League."

United have lost 12 matches in 22 matches in all competitions, as many as they lost over the entirety of the last campaign.

United must beat Bayern Munich to stand any chance of progressing in the Champions League or entering the Europa League. If they win and Copenhagen's match with Galatasaray ends in a draw then they will advance but any other result will see them drop into the Europa League play-off round.
