'Send that bum to Saudi!' - Man Utd fans rage at 'embarrassing' Bruno Fernandes penalty vs Fulham that 'hit the moon' as club captain misses from 12 yards for first time in almost THREE years

After United were awarded a penalty for Calvin Bassey throwing Mason Mount to the ground, captain Fernandes' spot-kick missed by a big margin in the 38th minute at Craven Cottage on Sunday. That led to a pile-on from football fans on social media, with some saying he should have been sold to the Saudi Pro League by now and others quipping that his shot landed on the moon.

@Gracemahony5 wrote on X: "That’s the worst penalty miss by @B_Fernandes8. I’ve ever seen was it going to the moon because that’s what he was aiming for !! Embarrassing and humiliating this is not good enough."

Portugal international is usually very reliable for United from the penalty spot. In fact, this is his first miss from 12 yards since failing to convert his spot-kick at home to Chelsea way back in December 2023. He had scored 11 in a row since then, but on this occasion, the 30-year-old could not deliver.

Fernandes' penalty miss proved costly as the Red Devils were ultimately held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham, which leaves them still searching for their first win of the new season. United will hope to bounce back when they begin their Carabao Cup campaign on Wednesday away to Grimsby Town in the second round of the competition. They then round off the month at home to Burnley in the Premier League on August 30.
