    WHAT HAPPENED?

    The French forward was first cautioned with a yellow card in the 93rd minute for stamping on an opposition player's foot but after he vehemently protested the booking and even screamed in the referee's face, he was immediately shown a red card and sent off.

    Earlier Giroud had opened the scoring for his team in the 28th minute before Tijjani Reijnders doubled Milan's lead. But the Serie A giants squandered their lead in the second half as Nicola Sansone and Lameck Banda brought the hosts back into the game.

    Lecce could have even won the tie as Roberto Piccoli found the back of the net from the free-kick that resulted from Giroud's foul. The team had already started celebrating a dramatic win but VAR cancelled the goal
