NWSL champions Gotham FC in advanced talks with USWNT free agent duo Rose Lavelle and Emily Sonnett

After falling in the NWSL final to Gotham FC, the duo's OL Reign contracts ran out, meaning they were eligible to explore NWSL free agency. Now, a little over one month after their heartbreaking loss in San Diego, Lavelle and Sonnett are in advanced discussions with the Bats, per The Athletic.

The report states that neither USWNT stalwart has put pen to the paper yet, but talks continue. If the Bats were to add both Sonnett and Lavelle, it would be an significant upgrade over the already championship-winning roster they have. Not to mention, they have also been linked to USWNT free agent Crystal Dunn - previously of the Portland Thorns.

Lavelle only scored one goal during the entire 2023 NWSL season, with it coming against the Bats in the NWSL Championship game. She missed much of the season due to injury, playing in just seven matches.

If the Bats can get the deal over the line, it would be an incredible holiday present for their fans and supporters as the festive season arrives. However, it would also allow both USWNT stars to land on a team with championship ambitions, surely an important factor in their decision-making process.
