The end for Onana? Manchester United edging closer to signing Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens after talks progress on €20m transfer

United chiefs have held talk with Royal Antwerp for Lammens, who is available at a snip for £17 million ($23m). The 23-year-old keeper recently made the step up to the senior Belgium squad and played for Club Brugge before joining Antwerp. Onana is unlikely to leave this window but will be expected to compete for his place, according toThe Guardian.

Onana has endured a torrid time at Old Trafford, with his performances veering between sublime shot-stopping and basic high-profile howlers. A new keeper was always on the cards and United's hand has been forced following the error made by Altay Bayindir in the clash with Arsenal.

While United may soon announce the arrival of a new goalkeeper, they are still trying to get rid of a number of unwanted players. Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Rasmus Hojlund remain at Old Trafford and manager Ruben Amorim has urged the quartet to ramp up their efforts to secure transfers away from the club before the window closes.

United are aware Onana will head off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon later this season, with their tournament kicking off on Christmas Eve. Adding another keeper makes perfect sense, but if Onana loses his No.1 spot he will have a decision to make about his future further down the line.
