Man Utd eyeing shock move for Leeds' Illan Meslier on advice of goalkeeper scout following string of errors from Andre Onana & Altay Bayindir

Following a series of errors from Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, the Red Devils are in the market for another option who can provide competition to their current number one. The club's goalkeeping scout Tony Coton likes the Leeds player and the club were chasing his signature a couple of seasons ago before the Frenchman's form declined and Onana was signed. However, the Sun report that Coton is still a fan of the player and, at just 24, can turn his declining career around.

United fans would be forgiven for questioning the interest in Meslier who, like United's existing goalkeeping options, never looks too far away from making a mistake. Once a highly-rated youngster in the Premier League, the goalkeeper has lost confidence and form and has been at fault for a number of goals conceded this season - including one freak mistake against Sunderland.

Although bitter rivals, Leeds and Manchester United are not strangers when it comes to transfer dealings. Most recently, Leeds splashed £25 million to bring Dan James to Elland Road and the Welsh winger is still playing for the club in the Championship. Other high-profile switches include Eric Cantona and Rio Ferdinand switching the Whites for the Red Devils. Could Meslier be next?

Meslier kept a clean sheet against Oxford on Saturday and will be looking to make it back-to-back shutouts against Stoke City on Boxing Day. The goalkeeper has had a poor time this season and may be looking to prove to other clubs, including United, that he is still as good as others tipped him to be earlier in his career. Meanwhile, United take on Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon with Andre Onana needing to prove he is still the best option for Ruben Amorim's side.
