  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Erik ten Hag deployed Wan-Bissaka in an unusual left-back role against Brentford on Saturday as the defender was partially at fault for The Bees' last-gasp equaliser. When Ivan Toney received a lobbed pass inside the United penalty box, Wan-Bissaka was caught napping momentarily as the English striker set up the pass from which Kristoffer Ajer scored. Just three minutes before Ajer's striker, Mason Mount had handed the visitors the lead.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Club legend Schmeichel was left fuming after the game as the former goalkeeper accused the Red Devils full-back of lacking pride. He claimed that the former Crystal Palace player was found "jogging" on the pitch and failed to close in on Toney.

  • WHAT PETER SCHMEICHEL SAID

Speaking to SuperSport, the former Denmark international said, "If you look at Wan-Bissaka on the Brentford goal, and this is what I mean by standards. Wan-Bissaka is out there to the left, the ball gets crossed and now look at him. He’s walking off, walking, walking, he’s jogging!

"And Ivan Toney would have been offside had he followed the back-four line up and then that goal wouldn’t have happened. Look at him [Wan-Bissaka] coming out! Look at it! That’s not Manchester United, that’s not pride, that’s not high standards. That’s not focussing on what your job is. He has cost – not to blame him for this – but at that moment, because of what he did, or didn’t do, a simple thing like concentrating, they equalised."
