Messi brought the Herons back to within a goal of Al-Hilal from the penalty spot, opening his 2024 account for the Herons in clinical fashion. The star of the moment, though, was Ruiz. The 19-year-old leveled the match at 3-3 with a heroic solo-run followed by a ridiculously clinical finish into the bottom corner of the net.

The duo's fantastic two minutes brought Inter Miami level, but it proved to not be enough in the end. Ex-Barcelona winger Malcom scored in the 88th minute, to clinch the win. The Herons scored the three goals they were missing in their first two MLS preseason games, but their defense collapsed, conceding four.

The Herons are currently on their World Tour during MLS preseason, and are next set to take on Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. in the Riyadh Cup on Thursday. Then, it's three more preseason matches followed by the start of the MLS season on February 21.
