‘Like a movie!’ - David Beckham responds to Lionel Messi ‘fix’ claims at Inter Miami following Leagues Cup triumph & eight straight victories

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to taste defeat since making his way to the United States. Messi inspired Inter Miami to Leagues Cup glory as his first piece of business – with 10 goals recorded through seven appearances as he landed the 44th trophy of his remarkable career.

Messi has since guided the Florida-based franchise into the final of the U.S. Open Cup, with eight successive victories taken in. There has been talk, particularly on social media, of games being scripted in order to help Messi make the biggest impact in new surroundings – but little attention is being paid to bizarre allegations that lack substance.

Beckham is looking to put a positive spin on such talk, with the Manchester United and England legend pointing out that Messi has been starring in his own Hollywood blockbuster for some time now. The Inter Miami co-owner has told reporters: “Every time Leo scores one of these goals, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] makes one of these passes, every time Jordi [Alba] makes one of these runs, people say ‘Is it a fix?’ It’s the biggest compliment that anyone can give these players because it is like a movie. You watch these players play and it’s emotional because everything about their play is beautiful. Everything about their mannerisms is beautiful and everything about them as individuals, off the pitch, is beautiful.”

Beckham is loving every minute of Messi’s time in America, having spent 10 years helping to put a stunning deal in place, and posted on Instagram after seeing Inter Miami earn another shot at major silverware in the U.S. Open Cup: “Another great night in pink. A great performance from the team to reach another final. Very proud.”
