His finishing was a bit wayward, but newly-signed Christian Saile Basomboli brought a whole lot more to the side. He showed lighting quick speed, as well as the confidence to take players on and you could see how he scared the Royal AM defence with his direct approach.He also exuded a very positive and confident energy which appeared to rub off on teammates and the fans.It was a brilliant bit of work from the DR Congo marksman which set up Ashley du Preez for the second goal and perhaps he will help spark the likes of Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Keagan Dolly and Kgaogelo Sekgota to greater heights.

Saile impact

Sifiso Hlanti brings a bit of old-school grit with his no-nonsense physical approach - and that's something Chiefs have not enjoyed enough of in recent years. Never scared to put his body on the line, Hlanti was rewarded in the opposition box when his towering header hit the back of the net to put the Soweto side in front on Sunday. It's the kind of commitment they could do with more of.

Heart on his sleeve

Siyethemba Sithebe has been out of favour for some time, but he showed what he can bring to the team with an industrious performance, helping Yusuf Maart control the midfield, even if the latter was not at the top of his game.

Siyabonga Ngezana was restored to the starting line-up while Dillon Solomons replaced the injured Reeve Frosler. Both had good games and staked their claims for more action, having been on the bench for quiet some time.

After an uninspired first half, whatever head coach Arthur Zwane said to his players at the interval seemed to pay off as they played with much more intent and commitment in the second stanza. After three consecutive defeats, this was an excellent response.

Chiefs have just started a three-year deal to play selected home matches in Polokwane and the turnout and support for the Glamour Boys made for an electric atmosphere which seemed to help spur the players on.

Chiefs should actually have won by quite a bit more, but the likes of Bimenyimana, Dolly, du Preez, Sithebe and Mduduzi Shabalala missed some good chances to add to the scoreline.

Still wasteful

In what has been a roller-coaster of a season for legendary former Bafana Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune, the 35-year-old was dropped to the bench after some recent mistakes. It suggested Zwane may not see Khune as the number one any more.

Another of Chiefs' senior stars, Keagan Dolly, had another game where he was off his best and he seems a little jaded right now. He did swing in a brilliant delivery for Hlanti's goal, so clearly remains important to the side, but Zwane needs to find a way to get Dolly back to his best.
