The English winger has been sidelined from the United first team since September due to a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag and is seeking a fresh challenge in January. THE BIGGER PICTURE

Barcelona boss Xavi is said to have no interest in acquiring Sancho. Moreover, Barcelona view Raphinha as "untouchable" in their squad, which ends any possibility of him being used as a makeweight to sign Sancho.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Raphinha is considered a crucial player at Barca and the club would only consider selling him during the summer if a substantial offer is received, and if the squad can be strengthened with a superior replacement. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

    WHAT NEXT?

Sancho must continue looking for opportunities elsewhere in Europe in what is going to be a vital year for the England international with the European Championship set to take place in Germany next summer. There is little hope for Sancho to revive his career at Old Trafford and the winger might have to head back to Germany as his former team, Borussia Dortmund, are reportedly interested in a swap deal with Donyell Malen.
