'The focus is to change his mind' - Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim refuses to defend his squad in response to brutal criticism from INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe

The part owner of the Red Devils shared his negative opinion of the current squad, saying that some players "are not good enough and some probably are overpaid" amid the team's disastrous performances in the Premier League this season.

Amorim offered no defence of his players when he was asked about Ratcliffe's comments, with the Portuguese coach counting himself among those deserving of the criticism, with United having won 11 of the 26 games they have played since his November arrival.

"I think if we are being honest in this moment everybody, me, all the players are underperforming this season so we can always change that," he told reporters. "So I include myself in that part of underperforming. If you are a top player and play in this football and even me - a lot of people say I am not good enough for the club - and my feeling is you can change that with results. In training, I feel they want that really bad.

"You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, that won everything and we know that these kinds of players can play so much better. So that is the focus. He was honest in that. The focus is to change his mind and to change all people's minds."

After earning a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal on Sunday, Amorim's side head into their Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday. The last-16 tie is all square at 1-1 after the first leg.
