Explained: Why Paul Mullin committed to Wrexham for a ‘long time’ as star striker enjoys ‘phenomenal journey’ organised by Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney

The Red Dragons’ star striker, who has hit 90 goals for the Welsh outfit following his arrival in the summer of 2021, has signed a new contract at SToK Racecourse through to 2027. Mullin will be 32 by the time that agreement comes to a close, with the plan being to have helped Wrexham edge closer to the Premier League by that point.

Mullin has told The Leader of penning fresh terms: “Since I signed for the club it has been an unbelievable ride and an unbelievable journey. I am going to stay here a lot longer than I initially first signed for, it is going to be a long time, but hopefully it can be a successful one. Up to now we have been a success but we want to keep going and keep pushing. It has been a phenomenal journey but it's one that isn't stopping here.”

With any questions of his future put to one side, Mullin is now free to focus on helping Wrexham to build on a productive run of results during the festive and New Year period that saw them claim three wins from four games. The 29-year-old frontman added: “Now the contract is all sorted, we can concentrate on doing the job in each individual game which is most important. They all add up come the end of the season but we don't think ahead. We have got Shrewsbury next in the FA Cup this weekend and that is our mindset. We go into that game looking to do as well as we can in the cup and then it is back to the league. We have got to fully concentrate on the next game because if you get too far ahead of yourself, you can always come back down to earth with a bang.”

Wrexham made the fourth round of the FA Cup last season, before coming unstuck against Premier League-bound Sheffield United, and currently sit third in the League Two table as Phil Parkinson looks to wrap up back-to-back promotions.
