Cristian Romero holds talks with Diego Simeone as Atletico Madrid weigh up summer move for Tottenham centre-back after Argentina star's exit hint

The Argentina centre-back has already opened the door to a potential exit by revealing that he would like to play in Spain, and now Atleti appear to be laying the groundwork for a potential move. That makes sense, given that city rivals Real Madrid have also been linked with the World Cup winner.

Romero has seen Spurs struggle throughout this season, with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League table amid serious doubts over Ange Postecoglou's future. He has made 18 Premier League appearances this season, with his playing time being limited by toe and hamstring injuries, but he is now hoping to end the season on a high, with Spurs set to face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals.

Romero is reportedly valued at €75 million (£64m/$85m) although the report states that Atletico believe they may be able to bring that price down due to Spurs' struggles this campaign. Of course, that is likely to change if Spurs win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs play Liverpool this weekend before they take on Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final the following Thursday. The first leg takes place in north London.
