Brighton vs Roma rivalry takes hilarious turn as Seagulls supporters unfurl banner with ultimate Italian insult aimed at Giallorossi legend Francesco Totti

Prior to the first leg in Italy, Roma ultras displayed a controversial message aimed at the late Queen Elizabeth II, sparking controversy with the phrase "The Queen gave b******s." And Roma's commanding 4-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico further made it worse for the travelling fans.

The Brighton faithful gave it back to the opposition as they responded to Roma's provocative banter with wit and humour, unfurling a banner at the Amex Stadium targeting Giallorossi legend Francesco Totti.

The banner humorously claimed that Totti "loves pineapple on pizza," poking fun at the Italian football icon with a reference to a divisive pizza topping. While a staple in the United Kingdom, that pizza combination is thoroughly frowned upon in the Mediterranean country.

Brighton's response extended beyond the stands, as their players churned out a hard-fought 1-0 victory against the Romans with Danny Welbeck firing a screamer into the top corner in the first half. His effort was in vain, however, as the Premier League outfit were beaten 4-1 on aggregate over the two legs, crashing out of their first ever European tournament at the last-16 stage.

The rivalry between the two clubs started when Brighton fans were attacked on the streets of Rome a week ago, with two ending up in hospital after being stabbed by local hooligans. Fortunately, both of them were discharged after medical treatment. Even in the stands in the first leg, bottles, coins, and lighters were hurled at the travelling fans.

After getting ousted from the Europa League, Brighton will now head into a mini break and don't get back into action until March 31, when they come up against title contenders Liverpool at Anfield.
