Beth Mead and Alessia Russo are unstoppable! Lionesses on fire as Arsenal thrash Bristol City to keep pressure on WSL title challengers Man City & Chelsea

It took just seven minutes for the Gunners to go ahead in the Women's Super League clash. Caitlin Foord capitalised on some weak defending from the visitors and shook off a challenge to drive into the box before unleashing a shot that was diverted into the path of Beth Mead, who made no mistake from close range.

The hosts continued to dominate from then on, with Alessia Russo leading the charge having made four attempts within the first 30 minutes and Victoria Pelova hitting the woodwork. It was Mead who struck again, though, firing in with a fine strike from the middle of the box after 33 minutes. Almost immediately afterwards, it was 3-0 as Steph Catley's cross struck Ella Powell before landing in the Bristol player's own net.

Russo then got a well-deserved goal of her own on the hour mark with the best goal of the day - taking on a pass and driving towards the box before lashing in from the edge of the box. She then rounded things off with her team's fifth with 15 minutes left to play.

England international Mead was brutally effective in the win at Meadow Park on Sunday. She blasted in two neat finishes to give her dominant team a strong lead in the first half and got on the ball at every opportunity in an attempt to create more danger.

Bristol City defender Amy Rodgers was humiliated by Foord in the early stages of the game in the English capital. Her tame challenge was easily avoided by Foord and allowed her to burst into the box. To her credit, Rodgers tracked back in an attempt to win the ball again but was outclassed as the winger went on to create the first goal, giving Bristol a mountain to climb.

After overpowering the WSL's bottom team, Jonas Eidevall's team sit third in the table and six points behind leaders Manchester City. The Gunners will take on ninth-placed Leicester in their next match on April 21.
