  • Havertz scored from the spot
  • Germany won 2-0
  • Game suspended more than once
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Havertz opened the scoring during a tense last-16 encounter in Dortmund. With the game having been suspended in the first-half due to a thunderstorm, and stopped in the second due to a masked man climbing the rafters, Germany needed a spark. Having seen Joachim Andersen's goal controversially ruled out, they went up the other end and won a penalty, again in debatable circumstances, which Havertz coolly rolled home.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jamal Musiala went on to score a second German goal as they comfortably booked a quarter-final place in their own backyard. Havertz has enjoyed a sterling tournament so far, having scored and assisted in Germany's 5-1 thumping of Scotland.

  • WHAT HAVERTZ SAID

Havertz wrote on Instagram: "Danke Dortmund! Tough game with a big result and a huge privilege to make my 50th appearance."

Germany will play the winner of Spain's last-16 tie against Georgia, meaning we could see a repeat of the Euro 2008 final. Spain won that game 1-0.
