All completed Barcelona transfers so far in 2023-24 - Listed

Caught between plugging holes in the squad and handling financial problems, Barcelona are once again at the forefront of a European transfer window this January.

The reigning La Liga champions made it to the Champions League knockout stage, but they are cut adrift in the domestic title race, and need to bolster their squad during the winter window to turn around their declining fortunes.

To exacerbate the situation, heartbeat of Xavi's side, Gavi has suffered a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty in November, leaving a huge void in midfield for the rest of the season.

"Our idea is to add another midfielder that can compensate for Gavi's injury," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta, but with the club greatly restricted by their dire financial situation, financial leverage —likely in the form of a six-month loan— would be required to make that happen.

With the winter transfer window up and running, GOAL has got you covered with a comprehensive list of all the completed Barcelona transfers in the 2023-24 season.

    New signings summer window

Veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has joined the Catalan club on a free transfer after helping Manchester City win a historic treble last season. The 32-year-old became Barcelona's first signing of the summer, and will bring his wealth of experience to Xavi's side. At the back, Inigo Martinez has arrived from Athletic Club on a Bosman transfer as a like-for-like replacement for the retired Gerard Pique.

They have welcomed back a whole host of loan stars as well. That list of players includes USMNT defender Sergino Dest, as well as French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet.

Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, formally returned to Barca from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid, only to instantly complete his permanent move back to the capital.

The Catalan heavyweights also signed former La Masia product Oriol Romeu from Girona as Xavi looks to find the perfect substitutes to the departing Sergio Busquets. In what was a hectic deadline day, Barca completed the double loan signing of Portuguese duo Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, respectively.

Barcelona saw two long-time serving servants leave the club, with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba calling it a day on their Barcelona careers. Both have linked up with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami after the MLS club signed the 34-year-old for a free transfer.

Griezmann completed his return to Atletico Madrid after a two-year loan spell, while Trincao joined Sporting CP on a permanent basis after a season on loan. Samuel Umtiti's contract was terminated to facilitate his free transfer to French side LOSC Lille.

Eighteen-year-old winger Vitor Roque has completed his transfer from Brazilian club Athletico Paranense, the club confirmed in late December. Having made his senior international debut for Brazil back in March, the versatile attacker had a prolific season for his club, scoring 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Roque is able to to play on either wing, providing competition to his compatriot Raphinha, Joao Felix, and fellow teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. But he will also challenge the aging Robert Lewandowski as the Blaugrana's out-and-out number 9.

    Departures January window

Barcelona could be interested in lowering their wage bill and securing a financial windfall by offloading some stars. A central defender could be sold in the midseason transfer window as it is the one position of strength at the club, with the futures of Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde all up in the air.
