Weah starts for U.S. vs. Mexico, Lainez, Alvarado lead El Tri attack

Tim Weah is set to provide an attacking threat for the United States against rival Mexico on Tuesday with El Tri hoping to put pressure on the Americans with young attackers Diego Lainez and Roberto Alvarado making their first starts.

Weah, a PSG prospect, starts for the first time since the United States' match against Bolivia prior to the World Cup. On the other wing is Kellyn Acosta, playing wide instead of in the middle for a U.S. team that called few wide players in for these matches.

Shaq Moore and Eric Lichaj are set to start as outside backs, with Matt Miazga starting alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the middle. Wil Trapp will sit deep behind Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams with Gyasi Zardes playing as the No. 9.

In Mexico's second match since Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti took over as interim manager the team is set to employ a 4-3-3, though it also could line up as a five-man back line. Club America defender Edson Alvarez has played both at center back and in the midfield for El Tri.

Alvarez would be joined in the midfield by Pachuca teammates Victor Guzman and Erick Aguirre. Ahead of them, Mexico's promising young wingers Diego Lainez, who is 18, and Roberto Alvarado, who turned 20 on Friday, will play on either side of Chivas forward Angel Zaldivar.

Midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez, who played for U.S. youth teams before filing a one-time switch to play for Mexico, is on the bench.
