Ulinzi Stars striker Stephen Waruru has taken a commanding lead in the race for Golden Boot as the Kenyan Premier League takes a two week break.
Waruru scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season in Ulinzi’s 2-2 draw against Gor Mahia in Kisumu last Sunday. The 26 year-old is now four goals ahead of Nakumatt striker Kepha Aswani, who is second with six. Aswani did not find the net over the weekend despite his side edging out Sofapaka 2-1 at Ruaraka grounds.
Boniface Omondi, who ditched Nzoia Sugar for Gor Mahia, Gilbert Fiamenyo (formerly of AFC Leopards) and Zoo Kericho’s Bernard Odhiambo are joint third with five goals each while Meddie Kagere of Gor Mahia completes the top four having hit the net four times.
Fiamenyo is however, out of the race for the award after he was released by AFC Leopards to ‘seek for medical attention’ in his native country, Ghana.
