New Chippa United coach Eric Tinkler has roped in retired defender Vincent Kobola to his technical team.

The 33-year-old will serve as Tinkler's assistant as the former player gets his coaching career underway.

The duo worked together at Cape Town City when Tinkler was still the head coach, but they will now share ideas on the Chilli Boys bench as coaches.

In an interview with Independent Media, Tinkler said: “Kobola is the only man that will be added to my technical team. In terms of the players, I still have to conduct some few training sessions, but I think we need to strengthen two positions. The squad has talent, abitlity and experience. I have to turn things around and get results.“

Earlier this week Chippa United announced the departure of Dan Malesela just after three games in charge following his return to the post in the off-season.

Tinkler is an experienced coach with an impressive CV  having worked at Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and SuperSport United.

He led Pirates to the Caf Confederation Cup final before moving to Cape Town City where he won the Telkom Knockout Cup with Kobola playing a vital part in defence.

Tinkler also guided SuperSport to the MTN 8 title at the expense of Cape Town City last season.

Kobola, who was a tough-tackling defender, had a professional football career spanning almost a decade.

He first played for Moroka Swallows, before joining PSL clubs such as Jomo Cosmos, Mpumalanga Black Aces and University of Pretoria among other teams.
