Despite losing 1-0 to Sydney FC on Friday night, Melbourne Victory veteran Carl Valeri is looking forward to challenging them in the heat of the finals.
Victory lost last season's A-League grand final on penalties to the Sky Blues and the two could be set for a semi-final showdown should Kevin Muscat's side beat Adelaide United in the first week of finals football and Melbourne City also win their game.
Though not blown away by Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium with an early Bobo goal the difference, Victory struggled to put their chances away and will need to be more clinical from here on out.
Valeri has been in and out of the starting squad all season but is eager to exact some revenge on Victory's fierce rivals come finals time.
"They (Sydney FC) have had two great seasons," Valeri told Fox Sports post-game.
"Let’s hope we come across them in the finals.
"We created a lot of chances. Unfortunately Sydney produce the goods in the front half."
After a dead rubber ACL group game midweek against Shanghai SIPG, Victory will face another long-time rival in the form of Adelaide in their quest to showdown with Sydney FC.
Though a mouthwatering finals fixture, Valeri is getting too carried away by the prospect.
"It’s out of my control so I can’t make much of it, whoever it is we have to play," he said.
"We are going to recover. We have Champions League on Wednesday and we’ll do our best."
