Tunisia to play Iran, Costa Rica and Spain ahead of 2018 World Cup

The Tunisian Football Federation have announced friendly games against Iran, Costa Rica and Spain to get the Carthage Eagles ready for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The north African country returned to the quadrennial event in Russia after a 12-year absence. And they have been paired with Belgium, England and Panama in the Group G.

In gearing up for the tournament, Nabil Maaloul’s men will host Iran in Tunis on March 23 before battling Costa Rica in France four days later. From there, they will travel to Krasnodar to play 2010 World Cup champions, Spain.

“In order to offer the Eleven National a better preparation for the final phase of the 2018 Russia World Cup, the Tunisian Football Federation has long since begun negotiations to organize friendly matches in Tunisia or abroad,”reads a statement on the FTF website.

“To this end, the FTF has reached agreements in principle to set up three friendly matches pending the final signing of contracts according to the following program: March 23, 2018, in Tunis against the Iranian selection; March 27, 2018 in Nice against Costa Rica and June 9, 2018 in the city of Krasnodar in the south of Russia facing Spain.

“The FTF will subsequently communicate the final program of the pre-competitive phase once the contracts relating to the friendly meetings and the training courses are initialled.”

Tunisia will begin their 2018 World Cup campaign against England at Volgograd Arena on June 18.
