WATCH: Kieran Trippier reveals the three matches he can't watch back and admits regrets over England not killing off Croatia in World Cup semi-final

Kieran Tripper has revealed there are three games from his career so far that he's been unable to watch back because they are simply too painful.

The defender, who is currently with the Three Lions squad at the World Cup in Qatar, admits that England's defeat against Croatia in Russia 2018 is at the top of the list.

Gareth Southgate's men saw their bid to reach a first World Cup final since 1966 come to an agonising end after Trippier opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick, with Mario Mandzukic scoring in extra-time to seal a 2-1 win.

Asked whether he's been able to watch England's World Cup semi-final defeat by Croatia back, Trippier told GOAL: "It's one match - this one and the Champions League final (Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool, 2019) - where I can't watch back, and obviously the Euros (England's penalty shootout defeat by Italy in the final of Euro 2020) because there's a lot of hurt there.

"Especially in the first half of the game against Croatia, I feel like we could've been 3-0 up and the game's done. But proud memories, proud of the team, but I couldn't watch that back."

Trippier, who will be hoping to play a part in England's huge World Cup quarter-final with France on Saturday night, believes the current squad are stronger after overcoming heartache in Russia and at Euro 2020.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Newcastle star said: "I feel like with this group... we've been together for a good three years now, we've been in a lot of situations which we've had to overcome, with such a young squad as well.

"They (the young players) had to deal with certain things in the Euros final and they've come out the other end even better.

"I feel like we're in a really good position and a really good place going into this tournament."
