Socceroos a target for ambitious Kevin Muscat

Riding high after leading Melbourne Victory to Big Blue triumph on Sunday, Kevin Muscat admits he one day hopes to coach the Socceroos.

Muscat was linked to the top job after Ange Postecoglou's resignation with Graham Arnold eventually picked to lead the green and gold moving forward.

Having replaced Postecoglou as Victory coach in 2013, Muscat has quickly impressed as a manager twice winning the A-League championship along with one premier's plate and FFA Cup.

Though Muscat is unlikely to get a shot at the Socceroos for the foreseeable future, the 45 year old is happy to admit coaching Australia is a big goal of his. 

"Without a doubt, I've not shied away from that," Muscat told SEN 1116.

"I tell the younger players in our team to reach for the stars, whatever that looks like to you, reach for the stars.

"If you fall somewhere short you won't be satisfied and I'm no different - I would love to manage the national team one day.

"As a player it's the most humbling experience and most satisfying experience representing your nation, so I would love to do it as a coach as well and coach overseas at some point too.

"Let's just see how it goes, I understand there's a process for all that to happen. You've got to be good at what you're doing now to be able to get those opportunities, so that is where my focus is."

Muscat played 46 times for the Socceroos scoring 10 goals and was called up to Australia's coaching staff by Postecoglou in 2017 for the Confederations Cup.
