Experience is likely to be the word of the day until SuperSport United eventually lock horns with TP Mazembe in the Caf Confederation Cup next month.

Despite only recently reaching the continental showpiece event for the first time in the club’s history, SuperSport’s celebrations look to be short lived as their focus has fallen firmly on their final opponents.

While many would fear the prospect of having to make the journey to Mazembe’s slaughterhouse in Lubumbashi, SuperSport don’t seem to be fazed at all. But why should they be, considering that they were able to come back from two goals down against the Ravens in the group stages of this year’s competition.

“It feels good. The fact that we came from 2-0 down away to Mazembe and snatched a draw (previously) shows us we can win this final,” SuperSport’s enigmatic winger Thuso Phala told SunSport.

“We’re playing with confidence. Knowing that coach Eric Tinkler took Orlando Pirates to the same final in 2015 will help. The coach’s experience will be invaluable as we get ready for the biggest event in SuperSport’s history,” he added.

This will be Phala’s fourth final in succession and even he admits that this one will be a little more special.

“This is the big one and we aim to make this count. It is not often in a player’s career that you get to a cup final, never mind an African cup final. So this is our big chance to bring glory to the club and country,” he said.

Meanwhile, following an MTN 8 final win and success on the continent, SuperSport now turn their attention to Telkom Knockout where they take on Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday.

“We have just won the MTN8 trophy and reached the Confed Cup final – and now we are up for winning the Knockout as well. We want to win everything that is on offer. That is what we are pushing for,” he concluded.
