Mexicans Abroad: Chicharito returns to starting lineup, El Tri players meet in Portugal, the Netherlands

It wasn't a fantastic weekend for Mexico national team players, but there were some bright spots and a pair of meetings between multiple Mexican players.

The best news of the weekend may have been Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez's return to the West Ham United starting lineup. It was the second start of the season for Mexico's all-time leading scorer and the first since August. Chicharito has been sidelined by illness and recovery from that issue, but played an hour in the Hammers' 1-1 draw with Leicester City - a game overshadowed by the tragic helicopter accident that took place in the aftermath.

Multiple Mexican players saw their compatriots wearing the opposing jersey this weekend. In Portugal, Jesus "Tecatito" Corona started for Porto against Antonio "Pollo" Briseno's Feirense side. Hector Herrera replaced Corona in the 64th minute of the 2-0 win for Porto, with HH among several regulars playing smaller roles after a midweek Champions League win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

In the Netherlands, Hirving Lozano got the start for PSV with his teammate Erick Gutierrez coming off the bench in a labored 2-1 win over Groningen. Uriel Antuna started last week for Groningen but came off the bench in stoppage time for a cameo this week.

Raul Jimenez started for Wolves but exited a 1-0 loss to Brighton after playing around an hour.

In Spain, it was a rough week for El Tri players. Nestor Araujo didn't get into Celta de Vigo's 4-0 victory over Eibar. Hector Moreno again sat on the bench for Real Sociedad as the Basque club lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid. Miguel Layun was an unused substitute in Sunday's Villarreal loss to Alaves after taking part in a 5-0 Europa League victory against Rapid Wien. Andres Guardado continues to miss time with an injury and wasn't in the 18 for Real Betis' 2-0 loss to Getafe.

Diego Reyes had played in the Europa League during the week for 2-2 draw against Anderlecht and then was on the bench as the Yellow Canaries fell 3-1 to Ankaragucu. The home defeat spelled the end of Phillip Cocu's tenure and Reyes will now have a different manager to play under going forward.

In Belgium, Guillermo Ochoa played in goal for Standard despite a quick turnaround from a Europa League victory over Krasnodar. Fatigue didn't seem to be a factor, with Ochoa and Co. able to secure a 1-1 draw with Genk and stay in the playoff places of the league.
