Mathare United veteran Vincent Okello will not be part and parcel of the ‘slum boys' 2017 playing unit, Goal has learnt.
The influential midfielder has been with the team for a while now, and was the captain of the Francis Kimanzi led side. According to the club's head of communications Samuel Gacharira, the player will be given a position in the managerial department.
"He is not part of our playing unit anymore, he has been omitted, but he will still have a role to play in the team. He has been a faithful servant and that is why he will be absorbed into the management,” Gacharira told Goal on Monday.
When reached for comment, Okello said he has not heard of the decision by the club to omit him from the 2017 squad. "That is news to me, I have not retired at all, and those reports are not true. I am still in it because I have a lot to offer this team.”
