Kuala Lumpur head coach Fabio Maciel has praised Malaysia Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) ahead of their round 22 clash on Saturday.

Speaking to the press after their league match against Negeri Sembilan last Sunday, the Brazilian said that the Southern Tigers' determination to better themselves needs to be emulated by all Malaysian clubs. JDT will play in the AFC Champions League group stage next season as the 2018 Super League winners, the first Malaysian side to reach the stage.

"The league winners have been determined, and JDT are always here to become champions. What they have done is fantastic; the way that they want to be big in Asia, and I'm happy to see one Malaysian club do so.

"In the future, all Malaysian clubs need to be like them. Not to copy wholesale what they've been doing, but to head in the same direction.

"There are a lot of quality players in the country, and this should be translated into a bigger presence in Asia," explained the former Timor-Leste manager.

The match against Negeri had earlier ended in a 2-1 win for the Hawks, a result that secured their top-tier safety while condemning the Deer to relegation for the 2019 season.
