Lacazette urges Arsenal to keep 'legend' Ramsey

Alexandre Lacazette wants Arsenal to hold on to long-serving midfielder Aaron Ramsey to help them improve under new coach Unai Emery.

The Welshman has entered the final year of his contract and said this week that he is unsure if he will sign an extension amid recent talks with the Gunners.

Ramsey had been a key part of the squad under Arsene Wenger last season until a hamstring injury disrupted his campaign.

The summer signings of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi adds extra competition for places in midfield heading into Emery's first season, but Lacazette hopes the London side realise they need Ramsey.

"Aaron has been there for about 10 years, he is like a legend at the club," he told Sky Sports.

"We have to be respectful for everything he has done and of course with his quality he can help the team to be better. He brings stability, quality and leadership.

"He is an example for all the young players too, so of course we need Aaron in the team."

The Frenchman is the latest Arsenal star to vouch for Ramsey, after Henrikh Mkhitaryan urged him to stay.

"He has been at this club for 10 years already and it seems he has become a symbol for this club," he said.

"I will be very happy for him if he is going to sign a new contract because he is [part of the] history of Arsenal already and I hope he can become a legend.

"His work rate is high and everyone appreciates what he does on the pitch and off the pitch because he is a true professional.

"It is very easy to be next to him on the pitch because he tries to be everywhere to help the team, to score goals, with assists, to tackle and recover balls.

"That's why I am going to be very happy if he stays at this club."

Ramsey has made over 330 appearances for Arsenal since making his debut in 2008, winning three FA Cups along the way.
